The Simple Way to Make Your Meetings 10 Times More Effective

Many of the contracting owners that I work with resist having meetings with their team or 1-on-1 meetings with their managers because they feel these meetings waste time without producing any meaningful results. Do you feel the same way?
So, I want to show you one agenda item that many owners miss in running their meetings that can make your meetings 10 times* more effective and produce 10 times* better results.
Let’s say you just had a meeting with your managers. and talked about several different topics, brainstormed ways to solve some problems and agreed on some solutions. It was a good meeting!
But after the meeting nothing got done. Why was that?
Let’s rewind the game film and look at that meeting again. Ah! There it is! Most likely, you skipped one crucial agenda item for your meeting: The meeting wrap-up. I’ve sat in on at least 100 meetings with my clients and a meeting wrap-up to summarize what you agreed to is almost never included.
In most meetings a lot of topics are discussed, but people are unclear about you agree on or who was supposed to do what. So, before you end the meeting, say, “Let’s summarize what we agreed on” and summarize who is supposed to do what and by when. Here’s how it sounds:
“Great meeting everyone! Let’s summarize what we agreed on. So, Bob, you’re going to do a draft of the pre-job checklist and bring it to our next meeting. Jimmy, you’re going to look into the ideas that we discussed today and research other ways for us to get more reviews and present your recommendations at our meeting next week. And you’re all going to send me your list of areas needing improvement by the end of the day on Wednesday. Everyone got these takeaways in your notes? Great!”
